This programme is part of the LEAF project and is aimed at educating and raising awareness about our food systems. It gives the students the opportunity to engage in exploring various facets of food production and to foster a deeper understanding of the connection between food , health and the environment.
This year's edition aims to further empower future generations and foster a sustainable food system . It will continue to emphasize the importance of food education while introducing more students to farming and food production. Its objective is to enhance awareness of the interconnections between agriculture, nutrition and environment sustainability. It will encourage students to adopt responsible food-consumption habits, to contribute to the reduction of food waste in order to help build a more sustainable future. The programme aims to inspire and expose students to the diverse career opportunities within the agricultural and food production sectors. fostering an appreciation for the breadth of possibilities available to them.
Our school will be organizing various activities related to this programme. There will be walks around parts of rural Gozo, talks on bees, olive growth and aquaculture, visits to a farm and an olive grove as well as a visit to Dream of Horses, Magro food village, Ta' Mena and the Pitkalija at Ta' Qali. We will be growing different herbs and vegetables in our greenhouse and on the school terrace Students will themselves take responsibility of sowing, planting and growing different herbs and vegetables, so that they may become more aware of what needs to be done, and how hard a farmer's life can be.
Teachers will organize various classroom activities focusing on crops and farm animals. This subject will also be incorporated in some mathematics and literacy lessons as well as in cooking sessions.
